Fake it until you make it

Overcoming fear of public speaking using the 'faking it until you make it' strategy.

When I was in advertising and public relations and found myself feeling insecure and not confident, even though I knew my materials, I would take a minute to re-adjust my reality.

I would pretend that I was the greatest presenter in the world. If I was giving a speech I would act like I was the greatest speaker in the world.

Sometime prior to my "act" I would take a minute to get into my role... and I usually pulled it off.

DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THINK

by LEE MARIE
(SAN JOSE CA )

My problem was what if they don't like my speech? What if I get stuck? What if I forget what I have to say? ...

And then I realized; people were not there to judge me. They were there to listen to what I had to say!

Don't worry too much about making a mistake. We all make them and that's how we learn and grow to get better.
