Birthday Quotations
These birthday quotations have been grouped under the headings: Wisdom, Witty and Milestone Birthdays (20th, 30th,
40th, 50th and 60th plus birthdays), to help you find what you need to make your birthday speech a standout success.
Where the author is known, I've included their name alongside the quotation. If you choose to use their words, please
acknowledge them.
Because I found so many wonderful birthday quotations to fit each category, I've made separate pages for the Witty and Milestone Quotations.
Birthday Quotations - Wisdom
These have been selected for the insights they offer. They are more serious in tone and not specific to any particular age group.
What I did find surprising was the general lack of quotations especially for children. However in my searching I came across a remarkable homeschool resource site offering, amongst many other things, quotations or verses for a child to celebrate the spiritual significance of their birth. This Waldorf (Steiner) education site gives samples as well as an overview of the meaning of a birthday and 'how-to' celebrate it suggestions. I hope you enjoy it.
And now onto the wisdom themed birthday quotations suitable for most ages...
Man's main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he
potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality.
Erich Fromm |
Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the
advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never
leave. Our lives are measured by these.
Susan B Anthony |
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting; The soul that rises with us, our
life's star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar; Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home.
William Wordsworth |
Real birthdays are not annual affairs. Real birthdays are the days when we
have a new birth.
Ralph Parlette |

Every human being on this earth is born with a tragedy, and it isn't original
